Insurance and Financial Services Consulting (LCA.GM)
Program Overview
The Insurance and Financial Services Consulting program is designed for individuals seeking to develop applied expertise in the insurance and financial services sectors. This comprehensive program integrates the acquisition of technical and professional skills aligned with current labour market requirements.
Structured to promote progressive learning, the program combines specialized courses, case studies, practical simulations, and a 4-week internship in a professional environment. Learners will explore all facets of property and casualty insurance, life and health insurance, taxation, savings, and credit, while becoming familiar with the legal and ethical considerations governing the profession.
This program is offered over four semesters and leads to an Attestation of College Studies (ACS) recognized by the ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur. It is available in both French and English.
Program Objectives
The main objective of the program is to train consultants who can provide professional guidance that complies with regulatory standards and ensures effective client relationship management.
Upon completion of their studies, graduates will be able to:
- Analyze insurance, credit, and savings needs of individuals and businesses;
- Recommend and sell financial products and insurance policies that meet legal requirements and client needs;
- Interpret financial statements, produce financial analyses, and assess the tax implications of various decisions;
- Efficiently manage claims and apply appropriate settlement processes;
- Use technological tools, including customer relationship management (CRM) software, in compliance with confidentiality and security regulations;
- Communicate fluently in French and English in a professional context;
- Adhere to the ethical and professional standards governing the industry.

Duration and Schedule
The total duration of the program is 1,605 hours, distributed over four consecutive semesters. Courses are offered online and in person at the Collège Royal du Québec campus, with schedules adapted to adult learners (daytime, evening, or weekends).
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet the general admission requirements set out in Article 4 of the College Education Regulations and the following specific conditions:
Art. 4 A person who has received instruction considered sufficient by the college and meets any of the following conditions may be admitted to a program of studies leading to an Attestation of College Studies:
(1) the person has interrupted his or her full-time studies or pursued full-time postsecondary studies for at least 2 consecutive terms or 1 school year;
(2) the person is covered by an agreement entered into between the college and an employer or by a government program of studies;
(3) the person has interrupted his or her full-time studies for one term and pursued full-time postsecondary studies for one term; or
(4) the person holds a Secondary School Vocational Diploma.
A person who has a Secondary School Diploma and meets either of the following conditions may be admitted to a program of studies leading to an Attestation of College Studies:
(1) the program of studies enables the person to pursue technical studies in a field for which there is no program of studies leading to a Diploma of College Studies; or
(2) the program of studies is covered by an agreement on training entered into between the Minister and a department or body of the Gouvernement du Québec.

Learning Path
The learning path is progressive and integrated. From the first semester, students are introduced to the foundations of the profession, technological tools, and sales practices.
Subsequent semesters deepen their understanding of financial products, taxation, claims management, and advisory services. The internship allows them to consolidate their skills in real-world settings and prepare for a smooth transition into the workforce.

Earning the ACS qualifies graduates for positions such as insurance agents and brokers (NOC 63100). Insurance agents and brokers sell life, auto, property, health, and other types of insurance to individuals, businesses, and public organizations. Insurance agents work for insurance companies or as independent representatives of certain insurers. Brokers work in brokerage firms, may be associated with other brokers, or may operate independently. This occupational group also includes insurance sales supervisors.

Diploma and Certificates of Excellence
Individuals who complete the program and achieve a minimum average of 60% will receive an Attestation of College Studies (ACS) issued by the Collège Royal du Québec and receognized by the ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur.
To recognize sustained effort and outstanding academic performance, Collège Royal du Québec awards certificates of excellence to students who achieve remarkable academic results upon graduation. These honorary distinctions are granted according to a recognition scale inspired by university standards, including the following mentions: Cum Laude (with Honours), Magna Cum Laude (with Great Distinction), and Summa Cum Laude (with Highest Distinction). These mentions are awarded based on the final grade point average. In addition to highlighting individual merit, these certificates are a professional asset valued by employers and industry partners.
All students successfully admitted to AEC programs delivered in English must demonstrate a minimum level of French language proficiency to be granted final AEC certification in their program.
