Accounting and Business Management (LCA.G0)

Program Overview

The Accounting and Business Management program is designed for individuals who wish to develop versatile expertise in accounting, taxation, finance, and the management of administrative operations. This comprehensive program enables learners to acquire the technical and professional skills in demand within small, medium, and large enterprises, as well as in the public sector and non-profit organizations.

Structured around specialized courses and practical workshops, the program provides the tools to master the entire accounting cycle, produce financial analyses, use accounting software, and contribute to strategic and budget planning.

This program is offered in French and English and leads to an Attestation of College Studies (ACS) recognized by the ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur.

Program Objectives

The main objective of the program is to train professionals capable of providing accounting and administrative support within an organization and contributing to its financial performance.

Upon completion of their studies, graduates will be able to:

  • record all financial transactions and prepare financial statements;
  • analyze and process data throughout the accounting cycle;
  • manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll;
  • contribute to budget planning and cost analysis;
  • track cash flow and manage working capital;
  • use accounting, tax, and office software effectively;
  • advise management on profitability, financing strategies, and tax compliance;
  • ensure adherence to legal and regulatory obligations;
  • communicate clearly and professionally in writing and orally;
  • demonstrate diligence, discretion, and critical thinking in the performance of their duties.

These courses cover, among other topics:

  • the complete accounting cycle;
  • bookkeeping and preparation of financial statements;
  • individual and corporate taxation;
  • budget management and cash flow;
  • legal standards and business law;
  • project financial analysis and internal controls;
  • implementation and use of computerized accounting systems.

Duration and Schedule

The total duration of the program is 495 hours, distributed over two consecutive full-time daytime semester, or according to an alternative evening/weekend format. Courses are offered online and in person at the Collège Royal du Québec campus.

  

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet the general admission requirements set out in Article 4 of the College Education Regulations and the following specific conditions:

Art. 4  A person who has received instruction considered sufficient by the college and meets any of the following conditions may be admitted to a program of studies leading to an Attestation of College Studies:

(1 the person has interrupted his or her full-time studies or pursued full-time postsecondary studies for at least 2 consecutive terms or 1 school year;

(2 the person is covered by an agreement entered into between the college and an employer or by a government program of studies;

(3 the person has interrupted his or her full-time studies for one term and pursued full-time postsecondary studies for one term; or

(4 the person holds a Secondary School Vocational Diploma.

A person who has a Secondary School Diploma and meets either of the following conditions may be admitted to a program of studies leading to an Attestation of College Studies:

(1 the program of studies enables the person to pursue technical studies in a field for which there is no program of studies leading to a Diploma of College Studies; or

(2 the program of studies is covered by an agreement on training entered into between the Minister and a department or body of the Gouvernement du Québec.

Learning Path

The learning path is designed to progressively develop accounting and administrative skills.

Initial stages introduce learners to the fundamentals of business law, general accounting, and management, before advancing to specialized software, taxation, financial analysis, and budget control.

Throughout the modules, students acquire professional autonomy that enables them to work in various contexts and provide strategic support to management.

Career Opportunities

Earning the ACS in Accounting and Business Management opens the door to a variety of positions, including:

  • Accounting Clerk (NOC 14200);
  • Accounts Receivable Clerk;
  • Bookkeeping Clerk;
  • Accounting Technician (NOC 12200);
  • Administrative Assistant – Finance;
  • Budget Management Technician;

Graduates may work in private companies, accounting firms, public organizations, or start their own businesses.

Training Location

Courses are offered online and in person at the Collège Royal du Québec campus, located near Sherbrooke metro station in Montreal. Learners benefit from personalized support, modern facilities, and adapted digital resources.

 

Diploma and Certificates of Excellence

Graduates who complete the program and achieve a minimum average of 60% receive an Attestation of College Studies (ACS) issued by the Collège Royal du Québec and recognized by the ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur.

To recognize sustained effort and exceptional performance, Collège Royal du Québec awards certificates of excellence to students who achieve outstanding academic results upon graduation. These honorary distinctions are granted according to a recognition scale inspired by university standards, including the mentions Cum Laude (with Honours), Magna Cum Laude (with Great Distinction), and Summa Cum Laude (with Highest Distinction). These mentions are awarded based on the final grade point average. In addition to highlighting individual merit, these certificates are considered a valuable professional asset by employers and industry partners.

All students successfully admitted to AEC programs delivered in English must demonstrate a minimum level of French language proficiency to be granted final AEC certification in their program.
